A beautiful video popped up on my YouTube feed showing dozens of planes landing one after another at Heathrow Airport in London, and two things immediately came to my mind: the song Fly Like an Eagle by The Steve Miller Band and the fact that life is all about envy.  

​

We humans envy nature 100% of the time — whether it’s the eagle’s flight, the shark’s swim, the lion’s power, or the cow’s peaceful grazing.  

​

That’s why we invented airplanes, diving gear, and even try to eat raw meat or graze like herbivores to emulate predators and ruminants.

​

But we never even come close, not even to our own nature.  

​

So I decided to pair the video with the song, and once again, the result felt artificially natural.

​

While reflecting, I named it Envy Like an Eagle because, well, envy is like an eagle: an imperfect predator, terrible at math, opportunistic and scavenger-like just like any envious person; and if given the chance will even eat other people’s kids.

​

No wonder it became the symbol of every envious empire that declared war on other envious empires.  

​
